Display platforms tips for Dept 56, Lemax, and other villages
When it comes to the cost of shipping, three things plays a factor:
1. We are a small mom & pop business and we get a minimal discount on shipping through Fed-Ex, and no discount through UPS.
2. We are located outside Philadelphia and many of our customers are on the west coast.
3. Even though our bigger platforms are built in two sections (to minimize the number of seams), the boxes are large.
For all of these reasons, the cost of shipping is admittedly high. The actual cost of shipping is higher than our listed rates, but we offer the lower price because we fear customers won't purchase our platforms if shipping is at the full rate. In order to offer the lesser shipping cost, either we had to raise prices of the platforms (something we don't want to do) or we eliminate the discount on purchasing more than one platform. We decided to eliminate the discount of purchasing more than one platform.
Most of our orders are shipped through UPS or Fed-Ex. We do compare the prices with other shipping companies, and will use another shipping company if shipping is cheaper.
Our policy is that we do not make a profit from shipping. Some sellers make a profit from both the sale of the item and shipping. That is their decision, but not one we follow.
We use Styrofoam peanuts to ship our displays. However, we also try to recycle the scrap pieces of Styrofoam left over from building the platforms by using them for packing material as well.
